There is something special about a clinical win on the big stage. This week, our Open Boys Cricket team traveled to Singleton to face off against Carinya CS in the CSSA State Championship, and they’ve come home with the trophy.
It was a day defined by discipline, teamwork, and a “never-say-die” attitude that has become the hallmark of this squad.
Setting the Standard
The day started in our favor as the boys won the toss and didn’t hesitate to elect to bat. On a day where pressure can often get the better of a side, our batters remained composed, rotating the strike and finding the boundary when it mattered most.
The team set a competitive target of 144 runs—a total that gave our bowlers plenty of room to work with, provided they kept their nerves.
A Masterclass in the Field
If the first half of the match was about setting the stage, the second half was about closing the curtain. The “Burra” bowling attack was relentless, sticking to a tight line and length that frustrated the Carinya batters from the opening over.
-
Standout Performance: Jordyn led the charge with the ball, turning in a magnificent spell of 3-18 off 8 overs.
-
The “Safe Hands” Award: The phrase catches win matches rang true with Marcus hauling in an incredible 5 catches, anchoring a flawless defensive effort.
In the end, the pressure was too much for the opposition. Our boys defended their total with grit, winning the match by 28 runs to secure the state title.
Honoring Our Seniors
While this was a total team effort, we want to give a special shout-out to our Year 12 leaders: Ethan, Nick, and Jordyn.

These young men have represented the school in this competition for many years. To see them cap off their school cricket careers with a State Championship is incredibly rewarding. Their leadership and dedication have set a high bar for the younger players coming through the ranks.
Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff! This victory is well-deserved. Soak it up, boys—you’ve made the school proud.
