Zoie Moore | 1999 – 2022
A reflection from Mr Collins
At the start of 2017 the School received the difficult news that one our Year 12 students, Zoie Moore had been diagnosed with Leukaemia. Over the next few months I got to know the determined spirit of Zoie and her family. They were going to fight this disease with all their strength and the school was there to support in any way we could.
Zoie was one of the Class of 2017. It was clear from the start that this cohort were going to have a challenging year. They were deeply impacted by Zoie’s diagnosis, and were determined to show their support in both prayer and through action. The students decided to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave, driving this fundraising event with so much enthusiasm that they set a fundraising record for a single team of over $130,000. I will never forget the day where so many students had a haircut in the middle of the Science courtyard! They were a true reflection of the strength of Zoie and it was a day we truly saw the strength and love of the Inaburra community. There was a video put together of the day and I encourage you to watch it here.
For a time, Zoie was in remission and able to pursue her areas of passion, studying at both TAFE and University. I remember seeing her at the SCG for a Sony Foundation fundraising event, one of many charities she supported.
On February 11, 2022, Zoie passed away. At her funeral this week there were many members of the Class of 2017 in attendance. One of her friends opened the service in song, while six other students spoke of the incredible person she was and the impact she had been on their lives. While it was a sad day, it was also pleasing to see how once again the Class of 2017 came together to support each other and celebrate the life of Zoie.
In typical Zoie fashion, her focus continued to be on helping others. She has set up a research fund to help fight the cancer that eventually took her life. I would like to encourage you to consider contributing to this fund.
