In 2026, Inaburra School achieved an extraordinary milestone, receiving a record 29 nominations for OnSTAGE, the prestigious showcase celebrating outstanding HSC Drama performances and projects across New South Wales. This recognition reflects a program where students are consistently encouraged to take creative risks, push boundaries and strive for excellence in their artistic work.
“Drama asks students to be brave, to share an idea before it’s finished, to trust the people around them and to keep going when something isn’t working yet,” says Mrs Gemma Young, Inaburra Drama Teacher. “The results are wonderful, but what I’m most proud of is watching students discover what they’re capable of and seeing that confidence carry into every other part of their learning.”

More Than a Performance
While the 29 OnSTAGE nominations spotlight the exceptional quality of our students’ final pieces, the real transformation occurs long before opening night or final examinations. The magic happens in everyday classrooms and rehearsal spaces, where students learn to think critically, collaborate deeply and express themselves with growing confidence.
At Inaburra, the Creative and Performing Arts have long been central to school life. Music, Visual Arts, Dance and Drama stand as prominent pillars of our community, renowned across the region for high-caliber productions. Yet our commitment to drama has never been solely about accolades or what unfolds on stage. It is about the fundamental personal growth that the creative journey instils.

Building Character Through the Arts
Inaburra’s Learning Framework centres on cultivating learning character: the dispositions that empower students to thrive as lifelong learners. Expressed through six core attributes (THINK, QUESTION, COMMUNICATE, COLLABORATE, STRIVE and SERVE), drama provides a practical, real-world home for each value.
-
Collaborative Rigour: In the HSC, Drama is one of the few subjects requiring a group-devised performance. Students must learn to yield to alternative perspectives, navigate creative friction and honour their peers’ contributions.
-
Resilience & Risk: When devising original material, students wrestle with uncertainty. Rehearsals demand that they give and receive constructive feedback, refine their work and persevere through setbacks.
-
Confidence Beyond the Stage: Stepping out to perform requires vulnerable risk-taking, proving that personal breakthrough sits just beyond comfort zones.
These critical habits, honed in the drama studio, seamlessly transfer into all academic areas: whether a student is presenting a complex project, resolving a group disagreement or finding the courage to speak up in class for the first time.
Why Drama Matters Today
Drama remains one of humanity’s foundational forms of storytelling and a powerful mechanism for young people to make sense of themselves and the world around them. At a time when many students face heightened anxiety and digital distraction, drama invites them to slow down, listen closely and connect authentically.
The record 29 OnSTAGE nominations celebrate far more than technical skill. They showcase Inaburra’s Learning Framework in action: a testament to dedicated students growing as skilled performers, resilient learners and supportive peers, side by side.
