Year 7 students started the year with a bang as they travelled to Deer Park for their first camp at Inaburra. Beginning Senior School is a big step that can be challenging for any student, so camp is a great opportunity for the students to build relationships with other students and staff through a range of different activities and team-building exercises.

The students engaged in various activities such as sailing, canoeing, rock-climbing and enjoyed time on the famous waterslide. There were also plenty of opportunities for relationship building through both physical and strategic problem-solving. It was great to see the students working together as a team to achieve common goals and encouraging those who were a little more reluctant. School camp teaches the students to have the courage to try new things and resilience in difficult situations. As teachers, it was also a great opportunity to get to know the students, their personalities, and watch them conquer fears and grow over the 3 days.

During extended  homegroup on Wednesday Year 7 students had time to debrief. Some student feedback included –

“I can survive three days without technology”,
“I overcame my fears and surprised myself”
and
“I can achieve what I want if i just trust and believe in myself”.

A big thank you to our Year 9 leaders and Year 12 Prefects who joined Year 7 on Thursday night to run some games and activities. A special mention to 7G3 who took out the homegroup challenge that had students entertained for hours.

Thank you to Mrs Gaskell, Mr Pegg and the Year 7 Homegroup teachers for their positive attitude and wonderful caring support displayed for all our students during the three days. The wonderful opportunity provided for students wouldn’t have been possible without their efforts.

Overall, camp was a great success, a wonderful start for a cohort of students that will be the finishing class of 2025. Year 7 students can be most proud of the way in which they embraced all activities and behaved while on camp.
