What is your name and your role at Inaburra? Steve Foxe and I’m a Music Tutor in the Electric Bass.
What is your instrument and why did you start learning it and when did you start learning it? I play Electric Bass and Double Bass. The reason I started learning these instruments (in my early 20’s) was because I was playing violin in a Rock Band. And I just loved hanging out with the “engine room” of our Rock Band – the drums and bass. I decided right then and there that I no longer wanted to be a classical violinist, but a Rock Bass player!! The rest they say… is history!
How long have you been teaching at Inaburra for? Since February 2022.
What do you do when you’re not teaching at Inaburra? I coordinate a Song writing Club at The Scots College; I head down every Tuesday to the Kangaroo Valley where I tutor Year 9 music students who are based at The Scots College Glengarry campus; I conduct the Senior Wind Band at Caringbah High School; I tutor piano, guitar and bass guitar students at my home studio in Oyster Bay; I work 2 x days a week at my church, Gymea Baptist Church, where I am the Services Coordinator; I gig around Sydney playing in various Jazz, Funk and Rock bands.
What is it that you love about Music at Inaburra? I love the attitude and the manners of the students at Inaburra. They are all so polite and respectful. And they have an amazing approach to learning – they are so positive about discovering new things! I love that. It makes my day at Inaburra such an enjoyable one!
Electric Bass lessons are available for students from Year 5 onwards. Steve currently has two spots available. Please contact geeringj@inaburra.nsw.edu.au for more information.
