One of my regular jobs in the Senior School is to make recommendations to the Principal regarding applications for Term Time Holiday Leave and Exemption from school. The NSW Education Department requires families to apply for leave for any absence from school during normal term time (not including absences due to sickness).  There are two types of leave applications.

1. Term Time Holiday Leave

These leave applications need to be submitted for any absence from school to do with family holidays or travel, attendance at events such as weddings, reunions, watching siblings play representative sport etc.  This is for absences of one or more days. Applications must be lodged with the School Office at least two weeks prior to the event.  Applications are considered by the Principal, and if granted, a Certificate is issued to cover the period of the absence.

2. Exemption Leave

Exemption applications are for exceptional circumstances, employment in the entertainment industry or elite sporting events for elite athletes during the school term. This is for absences of one or more days. Applications must be lodged with the School Office at least two weeks prior to the event.  Applications are considered by the Principal and, if granted, a Certificate is issued to cover the period of the absence.

In the event leave is not approved by the Principal, or the leave application has not been received two weeks prior to the absence, the classification of the absence will be ‘Explained’ and ‘Unjustified’.

Application forms are available in the following ways:

  • Inaburra website – Click on the ‘Community’ tab then click on ‘Leave Forms’
  • Student and Parent Portal – document section
  • Junior and Senior School Offices – hard copy forms are available
