Inaburra is renowned for its vibrant, high quality and extensive music programs. The school has an outstanding co-curricular program in music and there is a strong emphasis on performance from K-12 with opportunity for students of all levels of ability to be involved in music making.

Within the school there are two Stage Bands, four Concert Bands, three Choirs, 2 Percussion Ensembles and four String Ensembles all of which rehearse on a weekly basis. The Senior Stage band performs at the Noosa Jazz festival each year where they have earned an enviable reputation for the quality of their performances. The Senior Concert Band has toured to Tasmania, the Gold Coast and New Zealand together with the A capella Choir and Stage Band and is currently planning a tour to the U.S in 2013. All school ensembles perform regularly throughout the year both at school and in the wider community and in competitions and festivals.

The school employs professional tutors and teachers to support the development of each ensemble within the program. There are some fees associated with joining some of the ensembles.

Music is a performing art and as we place such a high emphasis on the development of skill in this area we also have a number of events throughout the year aimed at encouraging and inspiring young musicians. These include:

  • Workshops with professional musicians from the SSO and similar ensembles
  • Concerts in combination with touring Orchestras (Chicago Youth Orchestra in 2012)
  • Lunchtime performances and concerts for students
  • Open Day Performances
  • Grandparents Day
  • Elective Music performance Nights
  • Peripatetic Performance Nights
  • Annual Music Night
  • National and International tours
  • Presentation Events

As you can see Inaburra has a thriving Music Department with fantastic opportunities for students to enhance their music education and contribute to the artistic and cultural life of Inaburra School.
